Lake Road Culvert Replacement

Lake Road Culvert Replacement

TCE worked with the Town of Milton to design and construct a replacement culvert on Lake Road due to the failing condition of the existing culvert.  The failing nature of the existing culvert was causing instability of the roadway. TCE was hired by the Town of Milton to provide professional services for the culvert replacement including design, permitting, and construction services. The final culvert design consisted of a 50 foot long 3-sided rigid frame precast concrete structure with interior dimensions of 11 feet wide by 5 feet high. The structure included precast headwalls, precast wingwalls, and cast-in-place footings. TCE was involved in all phases of the project from base mapping and site reconnaissance to final construction.  TCE’s project related tasks included:

  • Existing topographic survey
  • Wetland delineation
  • Civil culvert design including sizing, alignment, grading, and final site conditions
  • Erosion control design and stream bypass
  • Construction bid documents and bid phase work
  • Construction survey layout
  • Construction services including construction observation, shop drawing review, payment review, and construction coordination/documentation
  • Final as-built drawing

Bedrock was encountered in the flowline of the stream which had to be removed to allow for the culvert to be installed at the correct equilibrium stream alignment.  Blasting was used to remove the bedrock.  TCE coordinated with the structural engineer, Dubois & King, and the contractor regarding the ledge removal.
