Vergennes Main Street Scenic Bypass

Vergennes Main Street Scenic Bypass

From 2003-2011, TCE worked with the City of Vergennes to design a new river walk, boat ramp, cross walk, public parking, and a magnificent new stairway and viewing platform to support general recreational use of the Otter Creek River around the historic falls. This project has made the scenic basin area more attractive and accessible to the general public and a destination for City residents as well as tourists.

TCE worked with Addison County Regional Planning, Broadleaf Design, Engineering Ventures, and ArroDesign on this one of a kind VTrans enhancement project.

New architectural elements were carefully selected to blend into the historic urban/industrial landscape. Period lighting and historic railings were used as accents along with new signage and landscaping.

This project was a collaboration between the City, VTrans and Green Mountain Power who owns and operates two hydroelectric plants at the site. TCE worked with the stakeholders to overcome budgeting constraints and facilitated the design and construction of a unique fabric formed concrete staircase which was the final phase of this project. The staircase incorporated a unique delivery system as well as architectural styling and enhanced durability.

TCE provided construction oversight and the project was opened to the public in 2011.
