Jay Peak Resort Access Road

Jay Peak Resort Access Road

Jay Peak Resort retained TCE to provide roadway, stormwater and erosion control design for the new Jay Peak Access Road connecting Route 242 to the Main Tram Base Area of the resort. TCE provided a roadway design incorporating the resorts specific traffic and snow removal needs while preserving the majestic mountain terrain landscape. The complete roadway design with profiles and cross sections were developed to handle the adverse weather conditions and heavy traffic load of the resorts peak season conditions.

TCE’s onsite stormwater design included drainage area calculations and site grading to convey all stormwater from adjacent residential development to a central location for treatment in accordance with stringent Vermont rules. The stormwater treatment system utilizes an in-ground water quality unit pretreatment structure and a constructed wetland within a dry storm detention basin, to facilitate maintenance.

Erosion control features and plans were developed to attain coverage under an Individual Construction Stormwater Permit for the entire Jay Peak project.

In the summer of 2013, TCE’s onsite construction services including daily site observation and reporting, using TCE’s innovative on-site tracking system developed for Jay Peak. TCE provides an ESPC specialist that is a liaison between the contractors, engineer, state regulators, and the owner.

TCE’s provided construction survey services for layout and quality control along the roadway. As -built data collected during the construction process is used to ensure conformance with design plans and state permitting.

This exciting project establishes major improvements to the resort traffic circulation and dramatically improves the customer experience as guest arrive at the resort for the upcoming winter season.
